Be the Seed When It Comes to Your Planter
Have any of you ever “become” the person or thing you’re trying to analyze in an attempt to gain perspective? Well Dave Brennan, guest blogger for Case IH recommends thinking like the seed for which you’re prepping your planter. Doing so will help you understand how every part of your planter is designed for each specific task that supports an agronomic driver. Brennan goes on to list agronomic drivers in two categories:
Agronomic drivers for photocopy plants
- Proper seed depth.
- Disc openers
- Down pressure
- Uniform seed depth.
- Tire pressure
- Zero out row units
- Seed-to-soil contact.
- Furrow forming point
- Uniform and proper soil pressure.
- Closing disks
- Press wheels
Agronomic drivers for picket-fence stands
- Accurate seed population.
- Advanced seed meter
- Accurate in-row seed spacing
- Check your seeds
If you missed your local planter clinic and you have questions, call your Case IH dealer to schedule an extensive maintenance inspection. Doing so could create a whole new mentality for this year’s planting season.
