The preferred choice for farmers of Agricultural Tracks

It’s really quite simple – the movement of one’s hand (or just a finger) to acknowledge someone we meet.  The original gesture of waving was saluting, which was formalized in the 1780s, and in the 1800s waving handkerchiefs was used to show approval and excitement, or to call attention for the deaf.  It was at a Canadian event in 1984 that numbers of attendees forgot their handkerchief and so waved their hands in the air as a way to clap during the event.

For farmers busy working 24-7, a quick wave is often all they have time for.  Untappd.com said this of a beer called Farmer Wave made by The Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont:

…Hugs feel great. But when you find yourself behind the wheel of a 4,000 lb truck rumbling over the gravel, hugging each person you pass just isn’t in the cards. So you raise your finger off the wheel just enough to acknowledge your neighbor. The Farm Wave is a completely legitimate and wholly appreciated acknowledgement. It really is the least you can do to recognize that fleeting moment you share with another person. It is simple, but meaningful…

I shared a video with you in a farmer wave blog I did three years ago (http://titanoutletstore.com/farmers-lets-wave/) and still enjoy it to this day.  It was done by an Iowa radio station host, Todd Collins and was part of his grassroots campaign to establish “Farmer Wave Week” in Iowa in 2014.  Here’s his video from 2015:

In today’s world filled with political anxiety, economic uncertainties, and cultural differences, it’s important to stay true to who we are as people…as neighbors.  Farmers and everyone else should keep waving so we stay connected and work together for a better tomorrow.
